Functional Nutrition in Springfield

Functional nutrition in SpringfieldFunctional nutrition addresses the underlying cause of disease, using a systems-based approach that engages both patient and practitioner in a therapeutic partnership. We embrace this evolution in the practice of medicine that better addresses the health care needs of the 21st century by shifting the traditional disease-focused outlook of medical practice to a more patient-centered approach.

In Support of the Whole Person

Functional medicine addresses the whole person, not just an isolated set of symptoms. Functional medicine practitioners spend time with their patients, listening to their histories and examining the unique blueprint that each person presents with, such as:

  • Genetic issues
  • Environmental considerations
  • Lifestyle factors

These individual characteristics can influence long-term health and raise the possibility of acquiring complex, chronic disease. In this way, functional nutrition supports the unique expression of optimized health.

Your First Visit

Based on your personal profile, you may be asked to submit to lab testing before your first appointment with us. This lab work can include blood work, a urinalysis, hair analysis or stool sample testing.

You’ll be asked to fill out a comprehensive health history before seeing either Dr. Shanna or Dr. John. They’ll then conduct an extensive assessment of your condition to assist them in formulating a customized plan to help you optimize your health. Additional lab work may be ordered as well, depending on the complexity of your case.

Your Second Visit

During your second visit, the doctor will review your test results to help you better understand your condition. A customized action plan will then be discussed, that can include:

  • A purification program
  • Dietary guidelines
  • Nutritional counseling
  • Sleep instructions
  • Specific exercise
  • Stress management protocols

The Success Factor in Functional Nutrition

It’s been our experience that the commitment and involvement of the patient in this program are paramount to a successful outcome. Complete immersion in the protocols is necessary, and we only accept those patients that have the willingness to change negative habits. Those patients suffering from chronic disease are ideal candidates, and the positive turnaround that they observe in their health is nothing short of miraculous.

We’d love to welcome you as a new patient. Do you have a health problem that you’ve been struggling with? Have you lost hope? We may have the answer you’ve been seeking. Contact our caring office today for an appointment!
